Tips for Perfect Wedding Make-up

Think about the style of makeup you would like for your weddingday.

What time is the wedding? Is it a day or evening wedding? A lighter, more natural look is more suited to a day wedding and a more dramatic look is suited to an evening one.

What time of year is your wedding? If you are having a Spring/Summer wedding, go for bright, pastel colours. Warm, deeper shades will lend themselves well to a winter wedding.

Consider your skin tones and hair colour?  There are two colour palettes - warm or cool - If you are Blond or fair skinned, cool tones of grey, blue, soft pink and lilac are ideal. If you are brunette or olive skinned, warm neutral tones of brown, taupe, burgundy & red are more suited.

Your make up can be a little more dramatic than your everyday make-up as you can tend to look washed-out in photos if your make-up is to light.

Start your Beauty Regime well before your wedding big day

To get that glowing, fresh-faced look, there are a few things to consider a few weeks prior to your wedding day. A skin and nail care plan should be started about 6 weeks before the wedding. Talk to your beautician about having regular facials and manicures.

Don't get too much sun before your wedding. You don’t want to peel on your wedding day.  Consider Spray-on-tanning , a 100% natural way to achieve a tan.

Test and re-test your wedding day makeup regime

When you have chosen a make-up artist, organise a trial around 1-2 months before the wedding.

It is a good idea to have your bridesmaids with you to give their input and also advise what kind of look they want themselves.

Have pictures from magazines to show the make-up artist various looks that appeal to you.

Mention if you have any skin problems or allergies etc. or if there are any particular ways you wear your make-up.

If you are having a day-time wedding it is ideal to organise the trial during the day as this will give you a better idea as to how the make-up will look.

Finding Out Your Skin Type

Brides, before planning your makeup know your skin type.  The skin on your face will fall in to one of three main skin types - normal, dry, or oily, the are also sub categories which are combination or sensitive skin type. Before creating a bridal beauty regime or purchasing your wedding makeup products you will need to identify your skin type.

Here is how to find out which skin type you have: -

Normal Skin Type- If upon observation in the mirror there are no prominent areas of shine and your skin feels comfortable

Oily Skin Type -
If upon observation in the mirror your entire face appears shin

Dry Skin Type
- If upon observation in the mirror there are no areas of shine and further to this, you can see and feel the presence of tight skin, possibly flaky skin.

Combination Skin Type
- If upon observation in the mirror there are prominent areas of shine on your forehead, nose, and chin but cheeks are normal.

Sensitive Skin - Looking in the mirror press your thumb firmly onto your forehead for 10 seconds then remove your thumb.  The longer the mark takes to disappear the more sensitive your skin.

Brides Makeup Tips

Brides Skin / Foundation

·         Use a shine free sunscreen if you burn easy and are having outside ceremony photos on a sunny day.

·         To cover the reddish skin, use sheer color corrector and apply tinted moisturizer of yellowish green or olive green shade to neutralize it.

·         Cream foundation with a high pigment level is recommended.

·         Don't forget to cover your neck, chest, area behind your ears with foundation and makeup too. (just make sure you don’t get any on your white dress)

·         Morning weddings need natural look makeup while evening weddings need more formally adorned brides with darker makeup shades.

·         Lighting also determines your makeup. A well-lit area uses lighter colors while deeper tones are good for darker areas. Fluorescent lighting will add a greenish yellowy tinge to everything so avoid green shades.

Brides Cheeks / Blush

·         Pink color blush is not for the wedding day, generally speaking. Try bronzer under cheekbones instead.

Brides Lips / Lipstick

·         Make lips look fuller with bright warm lip colors such as orange-red, orange-gold, copper and warm beiges, creams and caramels or cool such as fuchsia, magenta, blue-reds, shades of lilac and pink.

·         Slim lips with deep warm lip colors such as yellowish and orange / browns; mahogany, deep warm reds and chocolate and deep cool shades such as cool brown, taupe, deep purple, plum and blue-toned burgundy.

·         The subtle look can be achieved by choosing light shades such as cream, gold, lime green and brown for warm skin undertones and lilac, plums and soft pink for cool skin undertones.

·         Neutrals are the safest choice to make you seem a bride endowed with natural beauty.

Brides Eyes / Eye Shadow

·         If you are not used to wearing heavy makeup, keep your hands away from blue and green eye shadows.

·         For olive and dusky skinned ladies, maroons and brown lip colors are the safest bet as well as the golden tones.

·         Eye drops like clear eyes will not only reduce redness but also make your eyes look whiter and wider.

Brides Hairstyle

·         Be sure to coordinate you overall look: all the colors should have either warm or cool tone while your hair, make-up, jewelry and gown should correspond to the carefully chosen theme.

·         Hairstyle is usually chosen, after completing the makeup to suit the looks of the bride.

·         Hairstyles are often adorned with pearls, rhinestones, flower buds, golden lace, satin ribbons, jeweled hair bands and tiaras among other hair ornaments and may range from the simplest French braid or bud to complex and elaborate hairdos.

Brides Teeth

·         Use a teeth- whitening treatment for several weeks before your wedding day.

·         Lastly red lipstick makes teeth appear whiter!

General Brides Makeup Tips

·         Bridal makeup includes all the attention to the minutest of details. Don't overlook them for the finished look.

·         A timeless makeup look will keep your wedding snaps fresher forever, so try not to give in to the fads of the day.
